Staphylococci are the most common bacteria causing intramammary infections (IMI) in dairy goats. Persistence of staphylococcal IMI during lactation and from one lactation to the next has been reported in goats (Contreras et al, 1997; Poutrel, 1984). However, the dynamics of these IMI around the dry period are poorly documented in goats. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the new IMI and spontaneous IMI cure rates over the dry period in dairy goats, and to evaluate the factors predicting these IMI dynamics over the dry period.
