High-mannose type N-glycans are well known to participate in quality control and intracellular traffic of glycoproteins. They cover the surface of many pathogenic microorganisms and are the targets of the immune system cells through their mannose receptors. They are characterized by the presence of two to six mannose residues linked to the common pentasaccharidic core Mana(1-6) [Manα(1-3)]Manβ(1-4)GlcNAcβ(1-4)GlcNAc.
