There have been many cases reported in the literature in which bridges suffered damage during earthquakes. These examples clearly indicate the need for detailed investigations of the dynamic soil-bridge interaction to determine the significance of that interaction on the bridge response. An efficient method for analyzing the three-dimensional dynamic response of soil-structure systems subjected to traveling seismic waves is introduced. The dynamic response of the single-span bridge and soil system subjected to incident P- and SV-plane wave have been studied. The basic effects of the excitation frequency and the direction of incidence of the incoming wave on the three-dimensional bridge displacements and deformed shapes are presented.
