The aviation companies are now planning seriously the use of alternative jet fuels to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, to lower their operating costs and to ensure their jet fuel supply. From January 1st, 2012, all flights leaving or landing in the European Union (EU) airports should be included in the EU Emissions Trade System, and, although some USA, China, Indian and Russia aviation companies have issued a lawsuit before the European Court of Justice arguing that this EU action violates the Chicago convention of 1944, the fact is that now the aviation companies have to pay this EU carbon dioxide tax. Jet fuel must fulfil a set of extraordinary sensitive properties to guarantee the safety of airplanes and passengers during all the flights.
