摘要

The paper focuses on introducing contemporary literary prose as an authentic resource for intercultural teaching and learning. Reading contemporary literature supports language learners to become competent language communicators who can use language effectively and naturally. Being aware of cultural conventions, patterns of behaviour and the perception of the world of those whose mother tongue language learners learn enables them as language users to communicate in situations unfamiliar to them. Within project VEGA numbered 1/0106/15, two pieces of contemporary literary prose (one written by a native speaker and another translated by a native speaker) are intensely analysed with the aim to find out a number of samples related to linguistic and cultural dimensions. In our paper, these samples are analysed in depth and completed by a number of examples that might be useful for those who teach and learn English as a foreign language in the intercultural perspective.
