With the development of industry, the demand of energy continues increasing. In order to meet the energy demand, more and more offshore drilling platforms have been established in offshore waters. When the offshore drilling platform is built near the customary route, it affects the navigation of the passing ships, and the safety of the platform is also greatly threatened. However, there is currently no standard to determine the safe distance between ships on the custom route and offshore drilling platforms. For the safety of the ship and the platform, this paper establishes a model to calculate the range of offshore drilling platform safety zone based on the acceptable standards for ship collision accidents and the braking distance of ship.The research of this paper can provide a new method for maritime management affairs: when demarcating the offshore drilling platform safety zone, the targeted safety zone is determined according to the traffic flow density, speed and ship type near the water area of the platform. The range of the safety zone is improved under the premise of ensuring the safety of the platform.
