The material undergoing phase transformation due to Quenching process is assumed to be a mixture. A non-classical constitutive equation involving phase transformation is put forward based on irreversible thermodynamics with internal variables. The material parameters in the constitutive equation and its variation against temperature are determined by a series of short time tension tests at different temperatures. As an example, the distribution of the residual stress along the radius and axis of 2Crl3 stainless steel cylinder after quenching is calculated. The calculated results of residual stresses near the surface of the cylinder are compared with the experimental data obtained by X-ray radiograph. It shows that the constitutive model and FEM code developed in this work are quite satisfactory.
