The "dry and extracted two-stage olive cake" (TSOC) is studied as a source of nutrient for goats and sheep. The TSOC is a lignocellulosic material with a relatively high content in phenolic compounds. The in vitro digestibility was low (31.3 and 31.0 percent for IVDMD and 28.3 and 28.6 percent for IVOMD, respectively when rumen liquor from goats and sheep was used) and was significantly increased by the addition of N, the effect being lower with rumen liquor from goats than from sheep. The potential degradability was low (DMD, OMD, CPD and NDFD: 47.5, 45.7, 58.0, 34.3 and 53.4, 50.8, 63.0, 39.9 percent, respectively for goats and sheep). The rate of degradation for the different nutrient was high, being significantly higher (P<0.05) for goats than for sheep in the case of the NDF (0.09 and 0.048 h~(-1), respectively).
