In the last few years, the introduction of functionality into well defined polymer structures as well as into surface coating materials became more and more important in science and industry. While controlled polymerization techniques are a well-known possibility to design polymers with defined chain lengths, narrow polydispersities and different architectures, the use of functionalities within these methods is still limited and causes a growing interest in the development of polymers with reactive side groups. Very promising examples are polymeric active esters, such as poly(pentafluorophenyl methacrylate), which have been investigated in our group previously1. To enlarge the number of reactive monomers, different (meth)acrylate- based monomers were synthesized containing an acetal group.
