As a large urban transport company, GVB Amsterdam was used to the regular problems of driver's and passengers' safety. Despite a number of measures, there was no integral plan to improve safety. However, in 1999 driver's safety became an A-issue for GVB's top management after several very serious incidents. The decision was therefore made to collect information, and a multi-disciplined task force was formed to improving safety in a structural way. As part of this safety Master Plan decided in 1999, a decision was made to install cameras in a large amount of vehicles, in order to improve safety in the vehicles, to protect staff, passengers and vehicle furniture he project will be dealt with from a technical, financial, operational and legal point of view. The built-in-project was finished just before Christmas 2000. GVB has made 4 basic documents to ensure the successful and careful application of cameras on her vehicles. These 4 documents are: Operational plan, Protocol, Use of images, Privacy rules.
