The harvest loss is a great problem in the agricultural production in Brazil. With the objective of reducing the harvest loss to a minimum value, in the irrigated rice crop, a field work was conducted. Using a methodology that allows the measurementof the harvest loss quickly, several samples were made per day, during all harvest season. After adjusting the combine according to the crop conditions, a trained technician was charged of taking the samples and making the necessary adjustments if harvest loss increased. This way, in one thousand hectares of an irrigated rice crop, it was possible to reach a harvest loss about 1 percent (one percent), one tenth of the average harvest loss found in Brazil. As about three thousand samples were collectedduring the harvest season, it was possible to make graphics that show the behavior of the combines, with the increases and decreases of the harvest loss. This paper shows that it is perfectly possible to reach a harvest loss much smaller than the averagefound around the country, simply with its diary monitoring and with frequent adjustments of the combines, aiming to adequate them to the crop conditions changes.
