At present fishmeal is the major ingredient in commercial fish feeds, especially those used for rearing carnivorous species, such as salmonids and many marine species. Fish meal resources are becoming limited due to increasing demand and decreasing marine fishery resources. Therefore fishmeal replacement with other potential protein ingredients is increasingly important and imperative for the sustainability of commercial aquaculture (Sugiura et al, 2000). Probably alternative plant proteins are the best candidates to replace fishmeal in aquafeeds. However, most of these plant protein ingredients have certain limitations such as lower protein content, low palatability, unbalanced amino acid profile and presence of antinutrients (Francis et al., 2001). New varieties of Lupinus represent a promising and potential protein source to be used in aquafeeds because of their high protein content and low levels of antinutrients. The present study evaluate the effect of whole grain white lupin incorporation athigh levels in extruded diets for rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus my kiss) on muscle fatty acid composition. The extrusion performance of diets was compared during the elaboration process. Additionally, liver fat deposition was also evaluated.
