Spironucleus sp. is a flagellate very similar to the genus Hexamita. The geographical distribution of the parasite is relatively wide and it mostly concernes fresh water fish (Poppe et al., 1992; Sterud et al., 1998; Guo & Woo, 2004). They reproduce by binary fission and have a direct cycle with faecal-oral transmission and could be found in stomach and intestine, but also in liver and kidney. The purpose of this work is to show and discuss an infection occasionally noticed in a Sicilian mariculturefarm.
