摘要

Any quantifiable physical parameter that directly correlates with the fertilization capacity of sperm could be potentially used as a measure of sperm quality (Rurangwa et al., 2004). Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) are pelagic spawners with external fertilization and no parental care. Because fertilization occurs in the water and cod spermatozoa can stay motile and fertile for a long time (Trippel and Morgan, 1994), sperm characteristics are of the most importance for determining fertilization success. We investigated changes in some common biomarkers in cod sperm and how they directly relate to the fertilization ability of sperm, we also tested the effect of conserving sperm samples for 24 hours at 4 degrees.
