At present, there exists no regular training course where the Space Syntax method iscombined with Geographic Information System (GIS), except at the European Master ofUrbanism (EMU) course caught at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). The aim ofthe course is to underpin strategic regional design scenarios through spatial and socioeconomic data analyses provided by GIS. Through the use of the ArcMap? andDepthmap software, it is possible to combine the spatial parameters of a builtenvironment with socio-economic data. The paper will describe the context in which thisinnovative course takes place, the methods used and how the knowledge has beenimplemented and adapted by the students in their later works. This is a joint effortbetween the instructors and students to reflect and evaluate upon this exploratorymethod.
