The application of the austempering treatment facilitates the achievement of high strength, good ductility and toughness because of a predominantly bainitic microstructure in the sintered steel. The final strength and ductility depend upon the relative amount of the different phases, ferrite, pearlite and bainite present in the austempered steel. This study explains the influence of the process parameters carrying out the austempering treatment in different environments. Astaloy CrL and Astaloy Mo were pressed to a green density of 7.3 g/cm~3 and sintered at 1120°C and 1250°C that ensures a decrease in the open porosity. The application of the austempering treatment comprises austenitizing at 860°C for 2h followed by quenching in different baths at 290°C. The discussion is based on the comparison of the as-sintered state and the austempered results, establishing a relationship between mechanical properties and the phases present in the final microstructures.
