The REIMS tramway 1st line project, initiated mid 2004, is recently under construction for an opening date scheduled on April 2011. The 11,5 km long project main features are a discreet insertion and infrastructure in the urban environment, altogether with a distinctive styling of the rolling stock. The Reims tramway line setting was delegated by the CAR (Communaute d'Agglomeration Remoise) to a consortium leaded by Alstom, for its construction, and Transdev as operator. Prior to the bidding process, CAR determined the livery of the rolling stock, after a public vote between two schemes proposed by the designer Ruedi Baur Alstom had to propose different front face styles, the final choice was made by the population between three original faces designed by MBD. The 18 tram concave faced cars will consequently wear one colour each of them, from a panel of eight different colours.
