THE tramway in Reims, France, was to be inaugurated on 16 April, with commercial service beginning from 18 April, two and a half years after construction started on the EUR305m project. Operated by 18 five-section 32.4m Alstom Citadis low-floor trams, painted in eight different colours from a design devised by artist Mark Rothko, the new line features Alstom's APS surface current collection between Place de la Repub-lique and Comedie in the city centre. Reims is the third French system to use APS to avoid overhead wires in historic areas.
