摘要

The main raw materials for cement are limestone, clay, silica, iron and gypsum. Coal is the dominant fuel used. These are all naturally occurring resources and a key concern of the cement industry is that it must use large quantities of these resources leading to environmental impacts such as intensive extraction of limestone and large consumption of fuels. On the other hand, cement production processes facilitate safe, large-scale recycling of various wastes and by-products, which is a characteristic not seen in other industries.In response to society's needs for improved eco-efficiency, Taiheiyo Cement promotes resource recycling systems that use alternative fuels and raw materials as a resource in order to prevent depletion of natural resources whilst increasing the lifespan of final disposal sites and contributing to the development of a recycling-based society.Ecocement is an epoch-making cement made with the primary materials of incineration ash from municipal solid wastes and sewage sludges. It has been hailed as a 21st Century environmental technology because it uses waste in large quantifies. Dioxins contained in the incineration ash are burnt at high temper above 1,350 degree C and decompose, while heavy metals are recovered and recycled with a post-kiln treatment system. Recently, a new commercial facility manufacturing Ecocement has been operating in Tokyo Tama-District receiving 92,000 tonnes of incineration ash from the solid waste of 25 cities and I town.
