Adverse reactions to drugs1 having an immunologic basis have been classified employing the original Gell and Coombs categories of type I through type IV reactions. Type I reactions are those mediated by IgE antibody and include drug-induced urticaria, angioedema, and anaphylaxis. Type II reactions are those in which cells or a tissue are specifically targeted by drug-induced IgG or IgM antibodies.
