摘要

Candidiasis is a common infection of the skin, oral cavity and esophagus, and vagina, although most infections occur in patients debilitated or who are immunocompromised. Candida albicans is responsible for many of these infections.The increase of fungal resistance to classical drugs, the treatment costs, and the fact that most available antifungal drugs have only fungistatic activity, justify the search for new strategies as the use of natural products. Thymus vulgaris, Croton lechleri, Julliana adstringens Schl., Matricaria chamomilla and Calendula officinalis L. are known to have medicinal activity and some of the plants are used in Mexican traditional medicine to treat a wide range of infections. In the present study we investigated the in vitro antifungal activity of these five plant extracts against Candida spp.
