摘要

Despite recent improvements in sheep fecundity due mainly to increases in ovulation rate (OR), a significant proportion of potential lambs are lost (commonly 15-20%) between ovulation and birth. Embryo losses normally occur early in gestation and are seen as a return to cyclicity, or as partial failure of multiple ovulation - affected ewes remain pregnant but have reduced litter size (LS). Factors governing embryo survival (ES) are not well understood, although uterine capacity is significant as the chance of an individual oocyte becoming a live lamb declines as OR increases.
