Anthracite is used as raw materials of various carbon materials because of its low cost, high carbon content and compact structure. However, anthracite must be calcined so as to remove the volatiles, lower the resistivity, improve the thermal conductivity and the true density before using in manufacture of carbon products. In industry, the calcinations of anthracite are usually accomplished by using two methods. One is gas calcined anthracite(GCA) treated at about 1300°C in the pot calciner or rotary kiln. The other is electrically calcined anthracite(ECA) treated at about the average temperature of 1700°C in electrically calcined furnace.
