In the last few years many different manufacturers have made their accessories and sensors for ROVs much smaller, more power efficient, and less expensive. This has allowed them to be deployed on much smaller and more portable vehicles. However, there has been far less progress made in true integration of systems across different manufacturers from a standpoint of operator interface and data integration. While each sensor or accessory may run on the same computer, for example, the fact that they run in multiple windows, with incompatible protocols, incongruous user interface, and a variety of data formats causes a problem. It is difficult for a single operator - or even a small team - to coordinate their real time operation. Even when schedules allow for post processing of the data, integrating the disparate data streams can be a significant burden. A solution to this is to have each manufacturer integrate their products into the ROVs control and display program. This presentation will show the current work from VideoRay, with examples of integration of a navigation, sonar, and ancillary sensor systems from different vendors working harmoniously.
