Starting from the observation that delinquent behaviour is often related to the family environment, the present article proposes an ecological approach to family social work, as a means of preventing delinquent behaviour among vulnerable groups. Thus, after some introductory observations, the first section of the article describes the ecomap, a tool which is commonly used by family social workers and which could be particularly useful when evaluating families belonging to vulnerable groups. The second section discusses certain principles and methods of intervention, based on the ecological evaluation of the family. A concluding section summarises the main points of the article.
