The threat of IC black/grey markets is a common threat to all semiconductor companies. It results in loss of revenue, disrupt market prices, lower sales and corporate image, especially when poor quality chips are pass off as the real stuff. Internal control measures are the first layer of defence. Filing of patents, trademarks and copyrights to provides legal backing when Infineon IP is compromised. Secured scrap management within original component manufacturers (OCM) and external subcontractors prevents bad ICs from ending up into the electronics black market.
