Zeolite Y is a unique micropore zeolite and the improvement of the catalytic transformation ability toward heavy oil requires the introduction of mesopores into its framework. Additionally, its micropore system is also important for shape-selectivity giving high activity and selectivity. The general preparation methods for the hierarchical zeolite production are steaming, acid leaching (dealumination), base leaching (desilication) or templating. For Y zeolite, dealumination by steaming is still the routine method for the generation of mesopores in the crystals. Mesoporous Y zeolite with homogeneous aluminum distribution can be prepared by a sequential desilication-dealumination treatment. Catalytic cracking catalysts showed an increase in gasoline and light cycle oil selectivity when the conversion of a vacuum gas oil.
