It is well known that the distribution of aerosol in Asia is complicated by both natural factors and h uman activity, and that air pollution has become sev ere in recent years. This work intends to retrieve optic al properties of aerosols in Asia by using combined measurements. We have been engaged in aerosol retrieval based on satellite data, ground measurements, and numerical model simulations. Our ground observation site is lo cated in eastern Osaka. We take advantage of the si multaneous observations made at Kinki University ca mpus. Note that all of instruments are set up at the roof of the University building and collocated in10 m area. In 2002, an AERONET station was set up at the University for measuring solar radiation. In 2004, a PM sampler was also installed at the same AERONET site on the roof of a building 50m above sea level. Further NIES/LIDAR measurements have been doing since 2008.
