Most of traditional methods of extracting contour do not show good self adaptability. To resolve this problem, a methodology based on ant colony optimization algorithm and median filter was presented for extracting Rape Seed's contour. The Rape Seed's contour was the food for ant. The node's pheromone intensity, gradient and direction were the information that guides the ants to search for the root. And a reasonable heuristic information and pheromone update mechanism was established. Meanwhile, the median filter was introduced to reduce noise. Finally, comparison and analysis were conducted on the experimental results through our methodology and other traditional operators. The experimental results show that the algorithm shows good self adaptability and the accuracy of the extracted contour is satisfying.
