In this paper, we focus on the problem of place name recognition for geocoding system, and propose an efficient approach for place name recognition using ontology structure. First, the FCA algorithm is selected to construct a place name ontology, and the concept of formal context and formal concept are defined. The place name otology constructed in our works consists of two types of nodes, which are "reference framework" and "entity of place name." Particularly, the entity of place name contains many place types, such as entertainment place, shopping mall, education institution, monument, accommodation, hospital, and transport facility. Second, a given term can be distinguished if it is belonged to a specific kind of space name category by calculating the place name similarity. Furthermore, the main innovations of this paper lie in that we define the concept of place name similarity, and present a novel method to calculate place name similarity by linear fusion. To obtain the place name similarity, location similarity and the ontology based semantic similarity are integrated with a linear weighting method. Finally, experiments are conducted to make performance evaluation, and very positive results are obtained.
