In this work it was investigated the possibility to use a low-cost sustainable filler, obtained from municipal solid waste incinerator (MSWI) residues stabilized by COlloidal Silica Medium to Obtain Safe inert (COSMOS) technology, for the development of new eco-friendly PP-based composites. The eco-composites were prepared by melt compounding and tested to verify the effects of the filler addition on the thermal, mechanical and electrical properties of PP. Moreover, in order to check the possible filler capacity to act as adjuvant for conventional flame-retardants, ternary PP composite systems, containing also a commercial non-halogenated flame-retardant in the formulation, were produced and characterized. The obtained results demonstrate that the MSWI residues can be an effective reinforcement for engineering value-added eco-composite materials.
