News Coverage of Trends that Predate Obesity Prevalence: Using Large Unstructured Data for Research on Marketing and Social Responsibility
Obesity rates have erratically risen in 50 years. While some expect that media mentions of comorbidities and food consumption follow these obesity trends, it is important to realize that food consumption trends probably precede these trends. This research investigates whether a large unstructured dataset of newspaper mentions of food can help predict obesity rates three years later.
