Development of coherent structure and turbulence behind a finite-length emergent vegetation patch in open-channel flow
In actual rivers, aquatic vegetations are often observed and the importance of these vegetations as a factor of water quality improvement is widely reported. Knowledge of flow-vegetation interaction is important both for river ecology and management. The plant structure affects flood conveyance and sediment transport. Aquatic vegetations induce additional flow resistance and reduce suspended sediment transport. Therefore, it is of great importance to reveal the flow characteristics in vegetated flows.
