Investigation on the reactivity of transition metal hydrocarbyl complexes toward molecular oxygen contributes to the development of catalytic oxygenation of hydrocarbons to oxygen-containing organic compounds. We have previously reported that the oxygenation of a benzyl ligand in [PdBnCl(cod)] was dramatically accelerated by the addition of mono- or bidentate secondary phosphine oxides (SPOs), affording either BnOOH or BnOH selectively as a main oxygenated product, depending on the reaction conditions.
