In this paper, an analysis of the sign language translation systems is carried out. Semantic features of the Russian sounding language and the Russian sign language are considered. The description of the sign language syntax is given. To solve this problem, work was carried out to resolve lexical ambiguity when translating from Russian “sounding” language to Russian sign language using the V. Tuzov's semantic dictionary. Syntactic transformations are also processed out to bring the translated sentence in accordance with the requirements of the Russian sign language. The description of syntactic transformations of Russian sentences for mapping to gestures is given. A translation algorithm is described, which includes semantic analysis and syntactic transformations. The work of the semantic module is aimed at allowing lexical polysemy to establish the correct meanings of words in the context. At the stage of syntactic transformations, the order of words in the sentence is changed. In the system there are 2 types of basic order of words: “subject, verb, object” and “subject, object, verb”. Taking into account the semantic information, the result of the system operation is the correct sequence of gestures of the Russian sign language. Thus, the proposal from the Russian language is translated into Russian sign language.
