Fabrication and Physical Characterization of Nickel Nanowires Formed by a Template-Based Electrodeposition Method

Ni nanowires were produced by electrodeposition using polycarbonate templates with different pore sizes (0.22 and 2.0 μm in diameter). Three different deposition times were used (7, 10, and 14 min.) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) and Rutherford Backscattering Spectrometry (RBS) were used for physical characterization of the Ni nanowires. The formation of nickel-like balls was observed after the pores were completely filled and, the results indicated the best deposition time between 10 and 14 min. Membranes with pores of 2 μm presented a better pore filling compared to 0.22 μm because of lower surface tension at the pores.
