The engine/airframe integration design is one keyrndifferentiating factor for making efficient transport aircraftrnand this topic will become more important for futurernaircraft as the turbofan engine diameter has increasedrnover the past years yielding to a stronger engine-airframerninteraction. Hopefully, the capabilities of advancedrnnumerical simulations allow the involved complexrnphenomena to be taken into account and this is illustratedrnin this paper through several research studies: the use ofrnthe Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equations togetherrnwith the drag extraction techniques to predict the drag, thernsimulation of unsteady complex interaction between thernjet and the pylon with the Detached Eddy Simulationrnmethod, the pylon and nacelle design through MultirnDisciplinary Optimization and the flow controlrntechnologies.
