The causes of short service life of refractory for cone bottom of Texaco gasifier, and the iron material on the interface between hot face bricks and castables were analyzed.The chemical composition and ash melting point of coal ash in different periods were tested and static crucible slag resistance tests were carried out, and then the cross-section appearance and microscopic morphology of samples were analyzed The analysis show that the higher of iron content in the tested coal or coat slurry, the lower of ash melting point of coal slag along with more severe the penetration and corrosion to refractories.Although a so-called composite spinel protective layer at the interface between slag and refractories can be formed, on the contrary, it will reduce the service life of refractory material.
