摘要

A new low-loss field-installable fusion splice-on multi-fiber MPO connector is presented. The demand for capacity in telecommunications and datacenters, due to diverse applications such as voice, video streaming and cloud computing, have placed challenges on high-density optical modules and components. The splice-on MPO connector was developed to improve the usability of high-density interconnections in central offices, datacenters, backbone connections and other applications, by providing significant time and space savings compared to the construction of comparable numbers of single-fiber cables. In this paper we document the development of the new low-loss MPO splice-on connector (SOC), demonstrate the consistency of the optical characteristics, mechanical and environmental reliability of the design.
