摘要

Throughput time halved ― a buzzword in many industries. The customer's decision to buy a product often depends on short and reliable delivery times. Many companies therefore see the reduction of throughput times as providing a real opportunity to strengthen their competitiveness. Such a goal can only be pursued, however, when the potentials for cutting throughput times have been exposed. This paper presents a systematic method for discovering such potentials. A company producing printed circuit boards was chosen as an example. This high-tech industry in particular is characterized by strong competition from Japan, where the same products are produced in much less time. The investigations showed that to shorten throughput times by up to 60% is realistic and requires no great expenditure.
