摘要

The study explores the moderating and mediating roles of corporate governance on the relationship between Chief Executive Officer (CEO) duality and firm performance. The findings, based on a sample of 1,974 publicly listed firms in Taiwan, provide robust support for the mediating model. The effect of CEO duality on firm performance shrinks upon the addition of independent directors to the model. The results do not, however, support the moderating model. Previous studies have not adequately considered the role of corporate governance in studying the association between Chief Executive Officer duality and firm performance. The study contributes to the existing literature by providing a comprehensive understanding of the moderating and moderating roles of corporate governance on the relationship between CEO duality and firm performance.
