Microturbines are a relatively new distributed generation technology. They can be fired on conventional fuel or on waste fuel. After completion of a few short-term demonstration projects, microturbines were first commercially applied to landfill gas in mid-2001. The paper which follows will discuss technical and economic issues related to the development of three landfill gas fired microturbine projects -- Jamacha (280 kW); Calabasas (300 kW); and OII (420 kW). All three projects are located in California. The microturbines at Jamacha and OII were supplied by Ingersoll-Rand. The microturbines at Calabasas were supplied by Capstone.
