In this article,a general approach for the practical application of Condition Monitoring for machine surfeillance and Predictive Maintenance in Hydro Powerplants based in vibration analysis is given. The main excitations,the hydraulic system and the rotor response are described.The main difficulties when trying to simulate the rotor resonse are indicated.The procedure to set up a predictive maintenance system with the selection of the measuring points,the spectral alarm bands and spectral alarm limits for a good condition monitoring is also included.
