摘要

A new approach for 2 dimensional spot size conversion of silica-based PLC is porposed. CO_2 laser is used for local heating around the core of PLC. The process is simulated using Finite Element Method. The simulation resulted in the spot size expansion from 3.78 #mu#m to 7.08#mu#m.
