摘要

In recent years, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has become an active partner with the EPA and other agencies in remediating contaminated sediment. As an agency with many years of experience in the navigation arena, the Corps has a unique perspective on contaminated sediments and has specialized capabilities in planning, engineering, design and R&D related to the problem. Although navigation dredging and dredged material management are similar to environmental dredging and sediment remediation, there are important distinctions. This paper describes Corps perspectives on both the regulatory and technical aspects of sediment cleanups.
