摘要

This study investigated leisure activities and the relationship between leisure participation, leisure satisfaction and life satisfaction among women between the ages of 35 and 55 in Taiwan. The study used a mixed methodology that involved both qualitative and quantitative approaches to gathering data from the study population. The quantitative aspects of the study involved the use of the Leisure Participation Index, the Leisure Satisfaction Index and the Life Satisfaction Index to support the development of descriptive statistics and an ANCOVA factorial model of the leisure behaviors of women in Taiwan. The qualitative aspects of the study involved the collection of data from a focus group, with the data analyzed with open, axial and descriptive coding. The findings of the study indicated that there was a significant correlation between higher levels of life satisfaction and higher levels of leisure satisfaction. The findings also indicated that Taiwanese women tend to continue to pursue more traditional leisure activities that are centered around the home, family and friends, while there is a general trend for them to engage in more modern types of leisure that involve physical fitness and self-improvement. The researcher concluded that the cultural boundaries between work and leisure are somewhat less clear for Taiwanese women than they are for their Western counterparts.
