Ethernet is the most widely used local area network protocol in the world today. 10GBASE-T is a proposed Ethernet standard, which aims to achieve a data rate of 10 Gbps. The high frequencies involved in its operation give rise to a new type of crosstalk in data cables, termed Alien Near-End Crosstalk (ANEXT). ANEXT is predicted to be one of the major impairments for 10GBASE-T systems and it is necessary to measure and analyze ANEXT.; An innovative technique to measure ANEXT in 10GBASE-T systems and a model for ANEXT are proposed in this thesis. The model is developed on the basis of measurement data obtained from experiments performed in a laboratory environment. The experiments were conducted using a wireline testbed consisting of CAT5E and CAT6 UTP cables.; Digital Signal Processing techniques are used to design the ANEXT model. Investigations have also been made in the thesis to find a technique to mitigate the impact of ANEXT in 10GBASE-T systems.
