Hydatidiform moles (HMs) are classified as partial or complete based on a combination of gross, histologic, and karyotypic features. Adherence to strict and reproducible diagnostic criteria is needed to ensure accurate diagnosis by minimizing pathological dilemmas when dealing with the variabilities encountered with molar pregnancies. This controversy has resulted from moles being evacuated at earlier stages when classical features are not yet developed. Also, it still remains unclear why Complete Moles (CMs) have a greater tendency to develop into malignant choriocarcinoma as compared with the Partial Moles (PMs). Optimal management of patients dictates diagnostic accuracy in differentiating CMs from PMs in the treatment and prognosis of patient care, but is not achieved always.; In conclusion, this study revealed the utility of image analysis in paraffin sections for the determination of DNA ploidy status of molar pregnancies and should be used in combination with histological and immunohistchemical methods for diagnostic accuracy.
