摘要

Within the urban landscape there is often a series of patterns of images, ideas and experiences that overlay and touch one another to create an intricate collage of buildings and spaces. The process of collage can be of great value to the urban designer because having ready made areas of patterns, forms and shapes that can be understood as a series of moments and moved around accordingly, allows for a very experimental approach to design. So collage becomes a method/procedure of organizing the collision of images, ideas and experiences within a city based on experience. Bricolage becomes the assembly of these images, ideas and experiences through 'wit'.;This thesis is about the immersion in place that engenders the improvisational creativity that leads to bricolage, an approach to urban design that begets the 'Collage City'. Case study: Barcelona, Spain.;"Wit, you know, is the unexpected copulation of ideas, the discovery of some occult relation between images in appearance remote from each other; and an effusion of wit, therefore, presupposes an accumulation of knowledge; a memory stored with notions, which the imagination may call out to compose new assemblages."
