ABSTRACT In an attempt at a rational design for anticancer drugs, two new potential anticancer compounds related to mitoxantrone were prepared. Compounds 4. 1.4-dihydroxy-6-aminoethyl-9.10-anthracenedione was synthesized in 6 steps starting with 4-methyl-phthalic acid, and compound 5, 2(4-aminobutyl)-l 4-dihvdroxv-9,10-anthracenedione was synthesized in 5 steps from N-3-bromopropylphthalimide.
